Residents of Komi Are Spending More Money on Groceries

According to RIA Novosti, in the first six months of 2026, consumer activity in the country grew by 4.8%, with the growth rate being twice as high as the previous year's figures. Experts assessed demand as the aggregate of retail trade turnover, paid services, and food service expenses.

This year, the spending structure was as follows: 70% accounted for retail trade, 24% for services, and 6% for restaurants and cafes.

On average across Russia, monthly per capita consumer spending in 2026 reached 52,600 rubles, which is 14% higher than in the same period of 2025. However, demand dynamics differ significantly between the leading and lagging regions in the ranking.

The highest growth was recorded in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug at 26.6%. In Magadan Oblast, the indicator grew by 11.4%. They are followed by Ivanovo Oblast ( 10.1%) and Mari El ( 9.8%). Bashkortostan rounds out the top five with a growth of 9.6%. The only region with a decline in demand was the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Komi ranked 79th: the republic's residents' expenses in 2025 rose by only 1.49%, to 44,500 rubles per person. A year earlier, the region held 35th place with a growth of 3.55% and an amount of 42,400 rubles. For comparison: in 2024, average monthly spending was 36,400 rubles, and in 2023, it was 32,800 rubles.
